Miniature Pond in a Pot

Miniature Pond in a Pot

A water feature brings something sensual and tranquil to a garden, and however small the garden, there is always room for one.

Water introduces a play of light and movement, and its reflections are deeply soothing.

“The sensual beauty of water is a pleasure which never fades and to see the sunlight dance upon the water is the magic that every garden needs”

My garden is small, with no space for a large water feature, so the answer was a pond in a pot.

I used a large waterproof glazed ceramic pot, filled it with water and placed a little gravel at the bottom, along with an oxygenating plant, available from any garden centre that sells pond plants.

The oxygenating plant keeps the water clear and free of algae, so the water never needs changing.

For the centrepiece of the mini pond I chose the vibrant yellow Marsh Marigold, with its shiny petals. It returns every spring and flowers for a long time if you keep deadheading it.

This little corner of the garden, with its mini water feature, is a favourite of mine and of the birds too; it is a joy to watch them perch on the edge and dip their beaks into the water.

Plants grow all around the pond, and their reflections in the sunlit water are a delight.

Even a mini water feature adds a little magic to the smallest garden.
