Christmas Homemade Wreath

Nothing is more welcoming than a handcrafted wreath on the front door, and a foraged wreath of your own making is far more beautiful than a ready-made one.

I use as many natural materials as possible when making my Christmas wreath, and foraging around the garden for them is one of the great satisfactions of the season.

Even a small garden like mine provides an abundance of moss, ivy, conifer, holly and other evergreen cuttings for the perfect wreath.

Start with a wire base; mine is reused every year. Cover the base generously with moss, securing it with floristry wire. Then add mixed greenery in small bunches, wiring each one to the moss base until the wreath is complete.

Finish with a beautiful ribbon bow to suit your colour scheme. A wreath is not just for Christmas, either: a sustainable foraged wreath is a wonderful way to celebrate every season.

There is no limit to what nature offers for a bespoke piece of your own.

Dried flowers, seed heads, twigs, grasses and even feathers can all be foraged to embellish your wreath.
