A Spring Garden Posy

A posy picked straight from the garden, in cheerful, uplifting colours, speaks of spring and the promise of brighter summer days to come.

Often the simplest arrangement of flowers from your own garden makes the most wonderful impact.

Yellow and blue is my favourite combination: the two colours work in harmony and make a confident visual statement.

These are the first flowers to appear in my garden: delicate forget-me-nots, pulmonaria, whose blue flowers turn through different shades of pink, and double-petalled daffodils in sunshine yellow, a sure sign that spring has returned.

I like to display flowers in glassware, and absolutely any type of glassware will do.

Even a champagne flute makes the perfect vase for a simple, delicate arrangement, and I use them often.

For a dinner party, dot a few mini arrangements down the centre of the dining table: it elevates the whole table setting and never fails to impress guests.

Look around your own garden and compose an arrangement that is entirely individual, using whatever you have to hand.
